Equipped with an IR/CCTV/LRF gimbal, CAMCOPTER® is designed to fulfill a very wide range of general surveillance roles without modification. The result is rapid deployment and ease of operation. This is particularly valuable to the tactical commander, whose requirement is for quick and accurate intelligence, delivered in real time, by both day and night. The Control Station (CS) software is designed to allow both pre-planned and manually controlled sorties, and for the immediate interchange between the two options. Therefore a mission can be switched from general surveillance to a point target interrogation, and then revert to an area search, all at the touch of a button. Only the CAMCOPTER® VTOL UAV System offers this flexibility. The selection of primary roles will depend on the operational situation, and the commander's priorities. Other general roles may be in support of non-military organisations or other government agencies or commercial undertakings. With the standard gimbal fitted roles can include: |

It provides the tactical commander with a massive improvement in observation, over a huge area, by both day and night. Using two or more systems continuous observation can be achieved over key points, providing early intentions of enemy redeployment or manoeuvre. Targets can be acquired during general surveillance missions, either in the pre-planned or manual modes. Opportunity targets, identified during any mission can be immediately engaged by either aborting the mission, or by suspending the mission only for the duration of the engagement. Once the engagement is complete CAMCOPTER® can either resume the original sortie or be tasked to seek out further targets in the new area of interest. At all times, using the combination of sensor data and the direct vision offered by the pilot camera, the observer has a detailed view of the battle area unparalleled by anything achievable by a ground observer. As a truly VTOL UAV System CAMCOPTER® has the ultimate flexibility to continuously monitor a target, remaining unobserved by the enemy, and with no "dead ground" limitations. CAMCOPTER® provides the ultimate artillery observation platform, by both day and night. Its key functions are: • Target Acquisition. • Target Location. • Fire Adjustment. • Target damage assessment. The tasks are achieved with maximum security, total protection of the observer, and very rapid deployment and response. No other currently available asset can match the flexibility of CAMCOPTER®, and its cost effectiveness. |

| The combination of day/night IR/CCTV/Laser surveillance equipment that is now standard in most payloads makes CAMCOPTER® particularly suitable for artillery target acquisition and engagement. Targets can be identified, accurately located and then engaged. The fire can be accurately adjusted, from the optimum observation position, and damage assessment carried out in real time, and at no risk to the observer. At the same time a rapid switch to target illumination for FGA or other asset engagement, should the target be out of range to artillery resources, is also possible. Thus the fire support commander has greater flexibility and choice, permitting the most effective use of assets available. CAMCOPTER® can either be allocated permanently to the artillery unit or rapidly tasked from a central holding agency. In either case its rapid response time, and ability to deploy to the best vantage point, despite the uncertainty of the ground battle, allows the task or artillery commander to react to new threats or unforeseen crisis. |

| CAMCOPTER® is capable of operating from small naval ships in up to moderate sea and weather conditions and offers substantial surveillance enhancement for low cost. Its small size, low radar cross-section, and minimal emission levels combine to provide a highly effective "over the horizon" capability with many applications, while ensuring maximum security. Equipped with a proven auto tracking system, rapidly installed as part of the ships communications equipment and compatible with radar and ships communication emissions. Operating as part of either single ship or task force operations CAMCOPTER® is a true force multiplier. It expands the area of influence, providing high definition observation well forward of weapon release range, allowing commanders increased decision times for counter action, and for target engagement. At the same time it can be utilised to designate targets for engagement by other assets or can correct fire from surface ships. The complete system can be stowed in a small space, and can be prepared very quickly for a sortie. Its ease of operation and maintenance allows it to be operated, with the necessary training, as a secondary role by existing ships personnel, thus avoiding the requirement to carry extra men. All normal servicing and maintenance can be carried out at sea, and the complete equipment package is designed for the special climatic conditions encountered on maritime operations. CAMCOPTER® roles embrace all normal general surveillance tasks normally only possible using expensive, manned air assets, together with specialist target engagement and identification. Detailed applications include the following: • Forward and flank observation for the task force or single ship operations by day and night. • Detailed reconnaissance of an area or particular site, or |
vessel - with the ability to make positive identification with the host ship outside normal weapon range. • Support for assault landings, including detailed beach reconnaissance, covert insertion, and pinpoint target engagement. CAMCOPTER® is particularly suited to early warning of counter attack manouvre, well inland of a landing zone. • Target identification and accurate location, followed by fire adjustment using Laser Fire and/or IR and CCTV. • Damage assessment of targets. • Search and Rescue operations and detection of EPIRB or similar beacon. • Anti smuggling and illegal immigrant patrols. • Routine inspection of installations (oil rigs) or navigation marks. • In support of coastguard activities, the location and detailed plotting of oil spills, illegal dumping or other environmental incidents. • The monitoring of routine commercial ship movements. Future tasks, subject to the development of appropriate sensors, may include: • Decoy operations using jamming, discharge of chaff, or other similar devices. • Communication relay i.e. to parties deployed ashore where the naval task force must remain outside the range of enemy weapons. • NBC monitoring. The adoption of CAMCOPTER® provides the commander with hitherto unknown visual detailed surveillance and target acquisition capability, by both day and night and at very low cost. It permits the maximum utilisation of weapon capability, maximum warning of enemy attack and effective support for a wide range of seaborne operations. It can be embarked rapidly onto even small patrol craft, and can be manned, as a secondary role, by existing ships personnel. |

There is therefore usually some penalty, and this may include a reduction in range. Depending on the load platform used it may also be possible to mount one or more cameras. Where this is not possible control can still be exercised through the use of the standard "pilot" camera. Using two control stations, and with the necessary interface controls, it is possible to mount a joint operation where both surveillance and specialist tasks can be run concurrently. Tasks already trialed include: • Precision delivery, and recovery, of remote controlled munitions • Deployment of riot control agents, smoke, flares, non-lethal munitions • Mine Detection - using Infrared Cameras Schiebel can, subject to payload weight and power requirements, advise on other specialist tasks on a case by case basis. |
||||||||||||||
| While CAMCOPTER® is a powerful surveillance device it can, where visual observation is not the prime concern, be adapted to carry out a number of specialist tasks. Such tasks require a degree of "re-rolling" and normally demand the fitting of a custom designed load platform.It may be necessary to remove one or more of the other sensors, or indeed the complete gimbal. | |||||||||||||||
